CA Blogging Assignment #8

-My overall impression of improvements I've made in my academic skills set in terms of researching, reading, writing, and discussion-

I learned a lot about researching and writing through essay-writing processes and now I understand how to write in academic styles and how to use databases to collect sources. In terms of reading, I don't think the amounts of reading I had to do in this term is so much but I got used to reading through some reading reviews and assignments about "radical evolution." In terms of discussion, I was able to enjoy discussing about difficult topics with many intelligent people in CA through P&Ds and discussions about reading reviews. Though I don't really know how my academic skills have been improved, I want to believe in the amounts of time I spared into this English Learning Program and make my skills more improved.

CA Blogging Assignment #7

"Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal." -Albert Einstein, letter to a friend, 1917

I think it means technological progress can be no longer predicted by humans and is totally out of control. Technology keeps advancing in several fields and people cannot predict what the next step of technological progress is going to be like, as if technological progress were in the hands of a pathological criminal. Also, since people cannot  foresee each step of technological progress, they cannot figure out how they can stop it. Therefore, humans who themselves found technology, cannot control technology anymore. In addition, I think technology is more powerful than an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal because people can never stop technological progress while criminal might be caught someday in the future.

"The law of unintended consequences" means a series of unexpected incidents caused by some actions. When people do something allowing for possible consequence and the actual consequence turns out to be opposite, it could be called one of "the law of unintended consequences", I think. For example, before I started the present part-time job I didn't like kids. I started it just because it was well-paid and I wanted to broaden my experience by working. However, gradually I have started to feel a strong attachment to kids and now I really have a soft spot for my students. I guess it might be an example of "the law of unintended consequences".

CA Blogging Assignment #5

My topic of ARW essay2 is the regulation of information by the government and my thesis statement so far is that though in many countries the government control the information people get in order to reign over them and suppress the anti government movement, it is counterproductive because it stimulates these movements even more strongly and information today is so expanding that the government in one country can no longer control it.
The reason why I'm interested in this topic is because I feel the strong influence of internet or social networking services on people every minutes and I heard about information-controlling systems the government use in many countries. The government use these systems because they don't want to show any bad information about their policies or secrets and make people protest against the nation. However, as the "jasmine-revolution" in China shows, these days the connection between people and the internet is so strong that the government cannot fully control the information. Therefore, I want to write the essay 2 in order to show that it is counterproductive for the government to try to suppress the anti-government movements by controlling the information.

CA Blogging Assignment #4

I guess I cannot see 'enhanced' students as human beings because 'enhanced' students can do everything perfectly and they do not have any weak points, which form individual personality of each person. The reason why human beings are interesting is because each person has both strong and weak points and these points are different from one person to another. Also, every social community, including the companies and schools, is formed by a great variety of members. If there were 'enhanced' students, they would do everything as the robots do and human relationships would be greatly changed.

The modifications to the human genome currently being studied and experimented with will eventually change human nature in the following ways. As technology make it possible to control the human genome and form a person into an ideal type, the way people feel toward blood relationships will change. Now people have their own family consciousness because there is a strong genetic connection between themselves. However, if people can control the genome inside themselves or others, they will lose their own natural genome and special connection with their relatives.

CA Blogging Assignment #2

My revised thesis statement for Essay 1 is that the politic system in Japan should be changed in order to make it easier for women to participate more in social leadership and the government should address the flaw in equality of the sexes. The three main supporting ideas for this thesis are as follows.
The first supporting point for my thesis is that the equality of sexes in politics should be achieved because it also means the equality of sexes in leadership.
The second supporting point for my thesis is that there is still much inequality of sexes in Japan. Compared with other countries, in Japan there is much less participation of women in the government.
The third supporting point is that the system used in the countries where women have made a success in the political field could be used also in Japan. It is possible to model Japan on these countries and make it easier for women to participate more in politics.
Therefore, because of these three supporting points above, I will assert that the politic system in Japan should be changed and the government should address the flaw in equality of the sexes.
